Ninth Commando Battalion

The **Ninth Commando Battalion** was one of the units of the **Eighth Armored Brigade** in the Israeli army during the Nakba and the occupation of Palestine in 1948. It was commanded at the time by **Moshe Dayan** and operated as a fast-moving assault force using armored vehicles and jeeps. The battalion played a prominent role in **Operation Dani** in July 1948, which targeted Lydda, al-Ramla, and the surrounding Palestinian villages.

The battalion took part in the assault on **Lydda** and also fought in the area of **Dayr Tarif and Bayt Nabala**. On 11 July 1948, it captured positions around Dayr Tarif and pushed units of the **Transjordanian Arab Legion** toward Budrus. Israeli forces consolidated control over Dayr Tarif during the following days.
